On-site Wastewater Management

On-site wastewater management systems can provide an innovative and cost effective wastewater solution especially where reticulated systems became too cost productive to justify.

BMT WBM play a leading role in the characterisation, modelling and evaluation of health and ecosystem impacts associated with existing and proposed unsewered development. We collaborate regularly with local councils and authorities to apply best practice modelling and geo-spatial analysis tools in developing appropriate and effective policy.

Recent Relevant Projects

Port Stephens On-site Sewage Management Planning (NSW)

Port Stephens Council has recently completed an evaluation of the sustainability of on-site sewage management within the region.  BMT WBM has provided comprehensive technical and policy development services in relation to the planning and regulation of unsewered areas.  This included hazard mapping, on-site system and catchment modelling and creation of a Development Assessment Framework for unsewered development.

Wooli Cabins Wastewater Design and Assessment (NSW)

The Wooli Wooli river is a high value estuary supporting oyster production and protected habitats.  A sophisticated level of environmental and health impact assessment is required for proposed on-site wastewater management systems in these environments.  BMT WBM completed comprehensive on-site system and groundwater modelling to assist in the design and evaluation of a wastewater system to service a proposed tourist facility.

Land Treatment for Sydney Water Priority Sewerage Program (NSW)

A range of effluent management options are being considered for Sydney Priority Sewage Program (PSP) areas.   BMT WBM is providing on-going services to Sydney Water to evaluate the feasibility of managing effluent via perennial subsurface irrigation for some of these areas.  Work has included modelling, development of innovative monitoring approaches for validation and assistance in implementation.
